The fall semester is flying by, and we have busy days ahead as we proceed towards final exams. Last week, our senior students displayed their inspiring language teaching materials. Here are some examples.

I asked my sophomore students to summarize what they had learnt in our first lesson. Here are some examples of their work (completed in about 20 min.).

Teaching English to Children -Assignment

*Choose one of the topics given below and write a paper about that subject. 

*Write a review of the related literature.

*Give information about the web sites that a teacher can use related to this particular subject.

*Use at least 10 different references.

*Follow the APA format.

SUBJECTS (Please choose one)

1.      Classroom management for young learners

2.      Teaching grammar to children

3.      Teaching writing to children

*Length: 4-5 pages, (1,5 space, Times New Roman, 12-point font size)


*Deadline: April 12, 2016

*Please send your assignments to dicleelt@gmail.com

European Day of Languages -Plurilingualism in Europe

The European Day of Languages has been celebrated every year on 26 September since 2001. On  that day, 800 million Europeans in 47 member states of the Council of Europe are encouraged to learn more languages, at any age, in and out of school. The main idea is that linguistic diversity is a tool for achieving greater intercultural understanding across the continent.

Online College Courses- Coursera, Udacity

It is now evident that the future of education will be directly related to computers and the Internet. I would like to introduce some web sites that offer online high school or college level courses to Internet users.

Coursera is a social entrepreneurship company that offers FREE online courses for anyone to take. The instructors are from the leading universities of the world. To learn more about the courses you may take, click here.

4th International ELT Students Convention

This morning, I was just surfing on the net. To my surprise, I saw an interesting video, prepared by our students (grade 3) on the classroom application of TPR. I think it was a microteaching session in one of their courses, and it's definitely very successful.

Welcome to our school

In their Community Service Course, our junior students supported the students of Leblebitaş Primary School. They went to the tiny village on Monday to pay a visit and give their presents. The pictures below reflect their enthusiasm. Look at the children. They are very happy and excited.

The European Portfolio for Student Teachers of Languages

The European Portfolio for Student Teachers of Languages (EPOSTL) is a document for students undergoing initial teacher education. It will encourage you to reflect on your didactic knowledge and skills necessary to teach languages, helps you to assess your own didactic competences and enables you to monitor your progress and to record your experiences of teaching during the course of your teacher education.

Contents of the EPOSTL

The EPOSTL contains the following sections:
• A personal statement section to help you, at the beginning of your teacher education, to reflect on general questions related to teaching;
• A self-assessment section, consisting of ‘can-do’ descriptors, to facilitate refl ection and selfassessment;
• A dossier, in which you can make the outcome of your self-assessment transparent, to provide evidence of progress and to record examples of work relevant to teaching;
• A glossary of the most important terms relating to language learning and teaching used in the EPOSTL;
• An index of terms used in the descriptors;
• A users’ guide which gives detailed information about the EPOSTL.

11th METU International ELT Convention

11th METU International ELT Convention is going to be held on the dates 31 May - 02 June 2012 in Ankara, Turkey. The 11th Convention is based on the theme "Embracing Challenges". The website of the Convention is www.dbe.metu.edu.tr/convention2012.
